Abstract: An overview of recent progress on switching of light in side-hole fibers with internal electrodes will be given. Polarization rotation, nanosecond gating, and wavelength switching in fiber Bragg gratings and in phase-shifted gratings will be discussed. Applications are exemplified in Q-switching fiber lasers and in RF-signal filtering.

Bio: In 2008, Dr. Zhangwei Yu got her Ph.D. degree in Microelectronics and Applied Physics, Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden. During 2009-2011, she was a post-doc both in Laser Physics group of KTH, and in the Fiber Optical department of Acreo Swedish ICT AB, Sweden. Since August 2011, she was a researcher in KTH and Acreo Swedish ICT AB. Her main research areas include electrically controlled fiber devices for different applications, and periodically poled silica fibers for second-harmonic generation.
