Few-layer graphene is an experimentally well-accessible and in parts tunable quantum material whose quantitative understanding may pose a well-defined challenge to theory. In this talk I describe our results on interaction-induced symmetry breaking in mono- and bilayer honeycomb lattice models at charge neutrality, in connection with the experimental investigations of the ground states of few-layer graphene. Starting with functional renormalization group studies that map out the leading instabilities we then ask how well we understand from theory the gap energy scales suggested by experiments. We show that self energy corrections have a strong impact in this regard and may reduce the temperature scales for gap openings considerably.
