Quantum cryptography is unbreakable in theory, however it may be compromised through implementation imperfections. Securing it against such practical loopholes is an ongoing effort by research labs, companies and standardization committees. I will brief on recent developments and give several examples of imperfections in the sender equipment (photon source) that may be used for attacks.
Vadim Makarov received his Master’s degree from St. Petersburg State Polytechnical University, Russia in 1998, and his PhD degree from Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway in 2007. He did his post doctor jobs at Pohang University of Science and Technology, South Korea from 2007 to 2008, and Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway from 2008 to 2012. He finished his Research assistant professor jobs at University of Waterloo, Canada from 2012 to 2018. He is now a Chief scientist of Russian Quantum Center, Moscow, Russia. His research interests focus on quantum computing and quantum hacking.
