THz radiation falls between infrared and microwave radiation in the electromagnetic spectrum and can be used for a different types of material characterization. Here, I will discuss (1) Using ultrafast terahertz spectroscopy on a GMR spin-valve, we are able to directly determine the fundamental parameters of magneto-transport ¨C spin-dependent densities and momentum scattering times of conduction electrons in a ferromagnetic metal. (2) Using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy we observe a Dicke cooperativity in magnetic interactions. (3) Using terahertz emission spectroscopy, we probe the elementary spin dynamics in ferromagnetic metal on a femtosecond timescale. The interaction of light and matter on ultrafast time scales aims to develop new concepts for the generation of THz radiation
Zuanming Jin is associate research scientist at Shanghai University. He received PhD degree in 2013 from Shanghai University. Funded by the Max Planck Society, he joined Prof. Mischa Bonn¡¯s group in the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research as a visiting student in 2012 for one year, and afterwards stayed there for two years as a postdoctoral scientist. He joined Shanghai University in 2015. Dr. Jin's research includes the ultrafast laser time domain spectroscopy and terahertz spectroscopy, focusing on the interaction and dynamics of photons and electron spin in condensed matter. He was awarded as the Young Oriental Scholar in 2015, SHMEC Chen Guang Program in 2016 and STCSM Shanghai Rising-Star Program in 2018. Dr. Jin is PI for one NSFC young scientist project. He has published more than 50 papers in leading international journals, including Nature Physics, Phys. Rev. B, Appl. Phys. Lett., J. Phys. Chem. Lett.
